On the margins of Dartmoor

I've been struggling against something in the last couple of months—I think it's been a desire to hibernate—but finally managed to get out with my camera today.

Waiting for...

I've been waiting for the weather to clear enough to let me get up into Dartmoor safely, while at the same time wanting enough snow to attempt some wintry captures.

Approaching Lee Moor from Cornwood

I was quite surprised to find that where I expected there to be lots of snow on the margins of the moors, only the sheltered spots seem to be retaining snow. On top of that, the weather forecasts have been pretty poor—when we were told to expect more snow, instead we got melting sunshine, pah!

Ok, I haven't yet got up into the moors proper, so maybe tomorrow. There's a definite margin/snow line as it gets more exposed heading up onto Dartmoor so I'll cross that on the next outing and see what possibilities that reveals. I'm hoping the Dartmoor Ponies will somehow feature.

We're struggling against hibernation, as well:). The moors would be a fabulous photo op, I would think. This is a great moody photo, to me....Heathcliff is just around the corner.

The weather never wants to cooperate with our creative moods, does it? Glad to hear you have the same problem over there:)
I've been wanting to do some work in the snow myself. Possibly a chance next week.. we'll see. Good luck and look forward to seeing what you come back with.

Wonderful pic....I have given up ALL of my winter attire since moving into the dessert. Even with warm boots, hat, gloves, and snow coat it still looks to cold for me to walk in! Good for you! getting out and about! Nothing like brisk fresh air!

Thanks for the empathy folks, I don't feel quite so strange now in wanting to hibernate, hehe!

@Mark: Huh! It was all weather warnings and dire consequences, then overnight, the snow was gone. Pah!

I did get out today, right up on the top of the moors in the environs of Princetown. There was still some snow piled up in the lee of the walls going across the moors there, so we'll have to see what comes out from the digital darkroom.

Wish me luck with the darkroom gods, maybe sacrifice a virgin or two for me!!

Thanks Judy - I did a lot of scrambling and got cold, wet feet from trying to find a pov that gave me a half decent composition. Thanks for recognising it!
