Start of winter on Dartmoor

We've been having a bit of an Indian summer here recently, meaning the weather has been sunnier and warmer than usual for this time of year.

On the day the clocks go back

Start Of Winter On Dartmoor

The clocks went back for winter at the end of the 25th / start of the 26th October and this day was quite typical of the recent good weather. I was passing through Dartmoor on a visit to the Duchy Square gallery and saw this. I just had to stop off and capture the wonderful sky that was blanketing the view, looking west towards Tavistock and Gunnislake.

Oh, and the trip to the gallery went well, delivering the pony triptych (print) and Fencing In The Dunes (40x26inch canvas). I met a really interesting lady working there called Sarah, who did her fine art degree in London. I'm hoping to be able to have a chat about her experiences and thoughts about what makes art fine etc.

comments / critique / feedback always welcome :)

Gorgeous shot! We've changed our fall back time to sometime in November. The U.S. is quirky that way!

Somehow the chill air always is captured differently on film. Love the photo.
Art. Fine art.
I guess those velvet paintings aren't in the fine art catagory?
:-)

I love the painterly feel Mark that you have for the composition. The (textural) relationship between the sky and foreground works particularly well.

We switch this Sunday morning @ 2am, though I will be setting my clocks back Saturday evening before I sack out.

I like the breadth of the landscape in this photo. I, too, have a monochrome photo today. I'm curious to know your opinion on it.

It's hot here! On Halloween! (U.S.) This photo is incredibly complex and evocative. I love those trees that are like line drawings. And clouds always catch my eye. Fantastic.

Off to see your triptych. Love me the ponies.

I could fall into this picture and live there. I visit your site and Neil Tasker's (Light and Dark) for my UK fixes. Have a great week!

It's taken me a while to get to this... it's been a busy few days for me.

@f8hasit: I use a digital camera - do you generally use film? I have seen one or two paintings on velvet I've liked... and hundreds I've not liked!

@Awesome Sara - Thank you , Mwoah! Seen it and commented :)

@Richard: Thanks for the painterly comment - I feel I've achieved something :)

@Marka - I've now got round to having a look and leaving a comment... better late than never!

@Everyone else: thanks for your comments and the great feedback :)
