Product Shots - pottery blog

As I said in my last post, I'd post details about what I've been working on and let you see the results of the product shots.

Mansour Eskandary

Mansour—Mans for short—is a well known potter, based just outside of Plymouth. He's had a blog for a while but was waiting until he could offer his work for sale there before developing it.

I've been helping him with that, working out a scheme to use the blog for that purpose, as well as the more normal uses. I've also been doing the product shots, as I spoke about in my last post.

Have a look at his blog, there's only two products for sale so far. But now that we've broken the back of the approach, it shouldn't take long to upload the product shots and do the blurb for the rest of this batch of 24.

By the way, the "scheme" I'm on about is the way we've decided to use labels very carefully so that we could use a simple list of links at the top to allow visitors to quickly see, for example, all the sold work, or all the raku, etc. We also spent a lot of time coming up with a convention to name each product.

I think we need one more column of links to cover
  • normal posts (all will be labelled "journal" or something like it)
  • terms and conditions
  • the privacy policy
Did I leave any out? Anyway, what did you think of the product shots?

That's such a nice project to be working on! It looks very, very nice - the website of a wizard!

I personally find it's easy to miss important links if they're at the very top of a blog - I usually look for them at the side, but maybe that's just me :)

Wow! Wonderful pots! That's one thing I wish I knew how to do ever since I was a child. I absolutely love the colours. Amazing.

Your friend is very talented. You've done a good job on his product photos.

The links at the top are good for visitors who know what they are looking for. As an ordinary person, I would like to see a link to a gallery for easier browsing once he has more to show.

@Kitty: thanks for the suggestion - I'm sure you a lot of folks feel the same. Once we've uploaded a few more pot shots (heh!) we'll put the links down the side as well.

@Sylvia: He makes it look so easy - as all master craftsmen do! Working so closely with Mans as a friend and on his blog, I get a chance to hear about some of the complexities of firing, temperatures and glaze recipes - and I'm sure I hear some closely guarded secrets, but they go right over my head!!

@Melania: As kitty said he's defo a bit of a wizard - no, more like alchemist (with a wizard hat!). Glad you liked the product shots. After seeing your comment, he and I talked about the suggestion of a gallery, but I'm not sure how we'd go about it. He's not very used to this stuff and we've got to get him to the point where he can maintain it himself. Any ideas for how to do a gallery simply within a blog?

Thanks everyone for your feedback and helpful suggestions :)
